Our Go To place for an outstanding dessert, be warned it can be busy after 7 pm! Excellent coconut cream pie,...really anything there has been wonderful. Been going there for over 15 years and we live over an hour away! Way to go guys!
The best banana pie I ever ate 😍😍😍
Good selection , great cake(not the best, but pretty damn good). And great service. They also have a nice outdoor seating area.Update: amazing marshmallow hot chocolate
Absolutely amazing desserts!! Worth a visit!
I had really high expectation paying 9.95 for a slice of cake... Sorely dissapointed... The cake is dry, stale, and dense..and seems like its been in the display case for a long time... the cream was also dry, chalky and tasteless... Can say that I won't be back! You're better off getting a slice of tasty cake from the Whole Foods Bakery.
Deserts are really good. Bought a cake here for a bachelor party. Very good.
The chocolate hazelnut cake was pretty delicious. Didn't like the raspberry chocolate cake. Service was good.
I add some more strawberries to decorate the cheese cake. Love the cakes and everything there.
This place has cakes bigger than a bear's head. They have more cheesecakes, layered cakes and pies than you can imagine. plus if there's ever an event where you just need a big cake to make it a statement this place will have you covered. Getting a cake from here is not a treat, it's an event. Plus they've been open since the start of the pandemic so they have COVID protocols down to a science. Don't pass up a chance to come here.
Best moist chocolate cake I’ve had in Vancouver
Great (huuuuge) desserts!
Wonderful strawberry shortcake and very tempting classic chocolate cake!
Portion sizes are large but unfortunately the cakes lack flavour and texture. Sort of like eating a dry sponge. Service was extremely slow too considering there were 3 staff members and only 2 guests. Had to go up to the takeout counter to ask for a box and our bill. Will not return.
Pretty busy but good
Great slices of desserts 🍰Strawberry 🍓 Rhubarb Pie, Strawberry Shortcake 🍰, Banana Chocolate Cream Pie and Hazelnut Mousse.A bit expensive though. 🎂
Without doubt this female cake maker/ designer is one of the rudest people I have ever had the displeasure of meeting. Her demeanour can only be described as toxic and a patron actually left the shop because she did not even acknowledge him. The owners of this business deserve to go bankrupt for hiring her. PS: Your shop is very dirty
Black top marble cheesecake and the strawberry shortcake were both amazing
Desserts were amazing, and drinks were great too, I also liked the overall atmosphere. However, the service wasn't good, the server was not friendly and felt like he didn't care. Otherwise good little spot!
I have been coming here for 20 years, and it's still going strong! In a city where it's very hard to find single servings of house-made desserts (especially high-end cake), several other restaurants have come and gone but True Confections has stood the test of time and it's not hard to see why. They still have the same charm and great food as always, and still manage to stay busy which means they should be around for many more years. We'll keep coming back so long as the cake is good!
Love their coconut cream pie. Banana cream & chocolate banana cream pies are great as well. Sadly, this location is closing this Wed, Feb 26th but the good news is that they will be moving to their new location on West Broadway (@ Collingwood) a few blocks down the road!
Unfortunately the new location comes with a loss of atmosphere and decline in service. Desert is still good
It was my Father's birthday and he was visiting town, so I decided to splurge and get us some fancy cake.Three kinds appealed to him - so I said, let's get three slices! Really was a financial splurge for me, but it was a special occasion so I felt great about it...until we ate the cakes.Coconut: while the flavour of the custard between layers of cake was very nice and coconut-y, the cake was awfully dry (as if it had been there for a couple days)Diplomat: I was especially excited about this one, as I've had diplomat cake from elsewhere and loved it. This one was okay. The flavour - sweet. Not any particular flavour, just sweet. It was okay. But the pastry layer was not crisp (which is really essential for a good diplomat cake).Salted caramel: this was the best of the three. The cake was a tiny bit dry, but not as bad as the coconut. And the flavour was nice. All in all, I was really disappointed. (although didn't let on, because we were celebrating and I didn't want to dampen things).
I love the food - been a long time customer of West End location where the staff were always attentive and friendly despite how busy they always are. Broadway location tends to be staffed by people who are slow, but tonight the male staff whom I presumed to be the manager really took it to a whole other level. This man, who reeked of white male privilege, was unbelievably arrogant. He dropped the cake onto our table - okay, I guess we’ll have to find forks for ourselves from another table. Proceeded to small talk with another white male customer for 10 minutes, then served a few other groups, before remembering that we hadn’t gotten our drinks. He came around as we were getting up to leave, and unapologetically dropped the drinks on our table. I can see from old reviews that our experience, regrettably, was not unique. Do not eat here, especially if you’re a person of colour. You’ll pay like everyone else but will be treated like second class customers.
One of the longest running dessert shops in Vancouver. I used to visit True Confections quite a bit years ago. My experience this time wasn't as memorable as before. My apple pie was only average. I could have a better one at Denny's. Also we ordered 2 cups of hot water with lemon. They charged us $1 for each sliver of lemon. They were not even a full wedge. I know there is a lot of competition out there, but this is outrageous. I awarded them 2 stars because my wife's chocolate cake was good.
Upon entering the first thing we noticed was how dirty the place looked. We were the only ones in there in the early afternoon and the girl working the till seemed like she’d rather have been anywhere else. The floor was really dirty and for how quiet it was it seemed like there was ample opportunity to do some basic cleaning. I took the first photo attached as we were waiting for our to go piece of coconut cake which the girl brought on a plate, somehow forgetting we ordered it to go moments earlier. Right then I was going to rate our experience two stars but I realized that would be unfair without tasting the cake. Upon getting home and getting halfway through our piece we found the lovely hair embedded in the cake as seen in the second picture. While I know accidents can happen at any bakery/restaurant, based on the rest of our experience at this place we certainly won’t ever return.
As far I know its fine I must say we haven't been there They moved about 3 blocks east and Google keeps asking anyway! Enjoy but it is not across from the 142 Legion anymore😊
The west Broadway location ; Drove from Langley, so excited to get a piece of pie! Decided to treat ourselves each to one, and one to split. Very ambitious to begin with. So when we were handed a second box, I didn't think much of it. Opened up the second box later and realized it contained someone else's order!! In any other state of the world we would have brought it back promptly, but Covid has changed the way all of us operate. Incredibly grateful that this business is here and we feel very spoiled !! The banana cream pie was UNREAL, and the salted caramel cake was something I'll happily drive an hour for again! Looking forward to this strawberry rhubarb pie later ❤️
This place is a shadow of what it once used to be. We went there with high hopes and left with a sweet taste and little disappointed.
It's good but not quite on the cusp of great - reason being the price and slightly slow service. The desserts themselves are absolutely fantastic and anything coconut flavoured is a win.
It's a decent bakery in terms of the food. However the management is not upto the mark. We went with a group of 9 person and somehow we felt that we were not welcome to the place. We were repeatedly reminded that every single person in the group should place an order of $5 or above. Even though our total was above $50, one person who was not feeling well also had to buy something in the form of take out. All in all I would like to see an overhaul in terms of the stuffs. The food and the location is good.
Alright for a bite but the cakes are too big for even a wedding, as the slices are way too big for me to even take home and share for a birthday once a year.
Desserts are too sweet, and even though store was not busy, manager moved very slowly and ignored us
Always a fan of their cheesecakes, but this time tried the warmed up pecan pie with my friend... Best I ever had... But everything is very dense and sweet, makes one full halfway through the dessert
The chocolate cake didn’t taste as great as you expect it to taste. I chose it because I want that sweet craving to be satisfied. I wanted to be like that kid from Matilda. I wanted to taste that kind of sugar where I just look at it and I can taste my childhood and it’s so amazing all the memories come flooding back and I cry sweet (cuz of the sugar) tears of happiness...The old school icing on your birthday cake sweet. At that price the chocolate cake should taste better. Sorry I just love chocolate cake.........Just straight up disappointed :’(
Warmed up strawberry rhubarb pie was delicious, the banana creme pie was also verrrry yummy. Wish I lived closer to this place!
This is the first time I’ve tried their desserts and I’m pretty disappointed. The cakes were okay, not that fresh and slightly too sweet. The prices were fairly high for a single slice of cake. But the main issue was the customer service. It took the staff (at least four of them) a considerably long time to put two slices of cake in a take out box. This was probably due to their lack of organization. I saw another customer ask to have his cake put in his reusable container. The staff member agreed but didn’t inform his coworker who was packing the slices.I wouldn’t recommend this place to anyone looking for good cake. I’m sure you could go to whole foods or any other bakery and buy an ENTIRE cake for the same price as a slice at True Confections.
Amazingly delicious and soft fresh cakes were discovered to my delight. The place buzz with people mostly late at night. Grab a Alcoholic or non alcoholic drink and ur favourite piece of cake to have a conversation and see how sweet it goes. 🤩👍Cakes can also be purchased in whole or get them customized. They have two separate locations and so have family business touch to it. Clean otherwise and efficient staff keeps the place in order. Wait to be seated. Gove ur order and it will be delivered to ur respective tables. Once done just get to the counter to pay which is at a small bar in the cafe in one corner.
Great sweets and lots of options to choose from.
Their cheesecakes don't come with crust which honestly I don't understand what kind of bakery does not put crust on their cheesecake. I am pretty sure its because they are too cheap or can't be bothered to add a crust to it. They will probably give an excuse that "we do not offer crust on our cheesecake bc thats not what our recipe has/is prepared" blah blah". After a few bites of the cheescake I wanted to throw up because it was just dense cream cheese with no crust on it to balance it out/make the whole thing taste less mushy.
Deserts are amazing to look at and even better when you get to eat them. They have a large variety of cheese cakes, and other cakes. They also offer coffee and teas. The food tastes great. With that said I've been going to both locations for the last 10+ years and have noticed that portions have decreased in size. Price has not gone up much so I guess it's a bit of a trade off. Don't need more cake but always want more cake. :)
Good cake and dessert selection and they’ve rarely been out of our faves: banana cream pie, Belgian chocolate mousse or carrot cake. However over the years, the slices have gotten smaller :S. Friendly staff and never packed line the denmen location. 4.5 stars :). FYI $5 min charge.
Delicious/massive portions of cakes and pies. Staff seemed slow and really disorganized even with the reduced capacity.
AMAZING dessert place. I would definitely recommend for any late night cravings or daytime desserts. Just stepping inside I felt like a kid in a candy store (or should I say cake store). So many delicious options. I ordered the tiramisu, and it was TO DIE FOR. So creamy. So decadent. I can't wait to come back here to try any one of their other desserts, and I definitely have my eye on that banana cream pie!
Classic Vancouver dessert chain which has been around since the late 80's at least. Nothing's changed since, with minimal updating of the cakes and pies, which is both a good and bad thing depending on your sugar tolerance. Service is decent with the small space and high staff to table ratio due to proximity to tons of students. Come for a nice place to chat, with a good late night vibe for a relaxed chill date. Avoid if your diabetic...
